Still suckling off the teat of the 6-brewery tour of the Twin Cities a few weeks ago, this weeks BotW is a super delicious coffee bomb of a beer. Double Depth Charge from Wild Minds Ales is an Imperial Coffee Stout clocking in at a crazy smooth 11.5%. Very warming but not hot, it’s all thick and rich roasty malt, pouring like motoroil with deep, rich brown colored foam cap. It smells like a freshly brewed cup’a Joe with a hint of chocolate.

Flavor-wise, it’s like the smoothest espresso and chocolate you’ve ever had. An amazingly creamy mouthfeel that’s not quite chewy, but makes you want to simply hold in your mouth for a while. The coffee itself is extremely strong but not acrid or harsh, which I found surprising. Lots of background bitter dark chocolate flavors help smooth out any overbearing coffee taste.

This is a beer I will not hesitate to pick up one or two more crowlers of to bring home and have again, just for the simple joy of sipping such a well made, rich and creamy, coffee stout. (for after dinner, or breakfast!)
