Beer of the Week Jan 14th – WarPigs Foggy Geezer

WarPigs Foggy Geezer

This weeks pick is one I’ve featured before and because it was my best beer this week, I’ll feature it once again – because it deserves it. I will always make sure I leave room for this when I see it on tap. Lush, flavorful, smooth, and delicious Foggy Geezer from WarPigs Brewing.

The brainchild of MIkkeller Brewing and 3 Floyds Brewing Co., Warpigs is the brand led by one of Minnesota’s most famous brewers, Todd Haug. Hired on by 3 Floyds shortly after leaving Surly Brewing in Oct, 2016, it didn’t take long for all parties involved to let Todd do his thing, make great tasting, attitude heavy beer. With three initial offerings, Foggy Geezer Hazy IPA, Salmon Pants Lager, and Lazurite Pale Ale, I find Geezer is my favorite of the three.

Pouring a beautiful hazy (though less hazy from the can), light yellow gold in color with an off-white head, the aroma of citrus hops and fruit are jumping out of the glass. Grapefruit, mango, and a little orange. Flavors backs up the nose with some pineapple and guava. Very smooth though it boasts of a medium/high bitterness, I found it to be very balanced and not harsh at all.

I know the NE IPA craze at the moment is all about super-cloudy, milkshake-like creamy textures and mega-fruity bombs but I like this one for not being any of that. It checks all the boxes for a NE IPA but doesn’t overdo it and still comes out looking/tasting like beer. Delicious, thirst-quenching – and did I mention it’s 8%? Doesn’t taste a mark over 5.5%. Have this one when ever you can find it.

Cheers!
