Stopped in at Bad Habit Brewing in St. Joe last Sunday after seeing a movie (I, Tanya – blacker than I thought it was going to be), and bumped into a few people we know from the Beer People Facebook group. The taproom had their Vikings tribute, Almost Purple (the Blonde Ale on blackberries, very tasty), on tap which was a nice surprise but my beer of the week is one I’ve had a few times and found myself wanting to have more.

Bad Habit’s Rather Ripped series is an experimentation of creamy, milkshake IPA’s with varying fruit infusions. The Blood Orange is one of my favorites from the series. Of course it’s super juicy, much like drinking an Orange Julius but this one while heavy on the vanilla and lactose, the distinct blood orange flavor comes through very well. A little sweetness and just the right amount of vanilla to make it more interesting, it’s a very refreshing, if a little dangerous because it’s so tasty. The sweet from the lactose, milk sugars, and vanilla keep the 7.4% alcohol aromas/flavors at bay.

Juicy, creamy, well balanced, and just downright tasty. If you have a chance to try any of their Rather Ripped series, you won’t be disappointed.
